Dare to Cheer Camp with the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders
The Global Down Syndrome Foundation launched the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders Dare to Cheer Camp for individuals with Down syndrome in the summer of 2010. It is affiliated, and runs simultaneously, with the Dare to Play Football Camp with Ed McCaffrey.
The philosophy of the Dare to Cheer program is to provide children and adults with Down syndrome a choice. For some participants, the camp provides a springboard of confidence whereby they then enroll in other cheerleading camps where the participants are “typical.” For others, the safety, therapy, and social networking of the camp means this will be their sole cheer camp or an addition to the typical camp they are already enrolled in.
At the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders Dare to Cheer Camp, individuals (females and males) ages 8 and up are welcome to join and learn cheerleading routines, participate in drills, practice dance moves, and experience team-building activities. Since its inception, the Dare to Cheer camps have served nearly 300 people with Down syndrome and twice as many people from the community. The camp provides an opportunity for people with Down syndrome to showcase what they can do. You can help support this program by donating to the Global Down Syndrome Foundation. $125 covers a Denver Broncos cheerleading uniform and poms.
The Dare to Cheer Camp with the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders is aligned with the Dare to Play Football Camp with Ed McCaffrey and generously co-organized by the Denver Broncos Cheerleaders. This program has 3 practices that culminate with a Football Game Day held at Valor Christian High School. During the game and at halftime, the campers get to show off their skills to an audience of more than 400 people.
If you are interested in enrolling in the camp, attending Game Day, volunteering, or learning more, please contact us at programs@globaldownsyndrome.org.
