Colorado Rapids    Global Down Syndrome Foundation    Regis University Soccer

The Global Down Syndrome Foundation launched the Dare to Play Soccer Camp for individuals with Down syndrome in September of 2011. The Dare to Play Soccer Camp provides an opportunity for males and females age 7 and up to learn the basics, camaraderie and joy of soccer from college and professional soccer players. In Denver, each camper is paired with a Regis University or Colorado Rapids soccer player for one-on-one attention, assistance and fun.

The Dare to Play Soccer Camp was inspired by the birth of Regis University Men’s soccer coach Tony McCall’s daughter, who happened to be born with Down syndrome. McCall reached out to the Global Down Syndrome Foundation, citing Regis University’s charter of giving back to the community, to create opportunities for people with Down syndrome to play soccer. Read more about McCall’s advocacy work with the Dare to Play Soccer Camp on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America website.

The Dare to Play Soccer Camp has grown into a collaboration between McCall, Brian Crookham, Colorado Rapids Youth Academy Senior Director of Soccer Development for the Colorado Rapids and Michelle Sie Whitten, President and CEO of the Global Down Syndrome Foundation.

2015 Global Down Syndrome Foundation Dare to Play Soccer Camp

The Global Down Syndrome Foundation is proud to offer the 2015 Dare to Play Soccer Camp in collaboration with the Regis University Men’s Soccer Team and the Colorado Rapids

Camp participants will have three practices and a showcase performance during halftime at a professional Rapids match in front of thousands of fans! This year there is also an additional showcase performance at a collegiate Regis University match! Regis University coaches and Regis University players (PALS) will be on hand to provide expertise and guidance during the camp.

Global’s Dare to Play Soccer Camp is open to individuals with Down syndrome, male and female, ages 7 and older. In addition to the practices and performances, camp participants will receive a soccer uniform (jersey & shorts), practice shirt and two tickets (one for participant and one for guest) to the Rapids soccer game on Sunday, October 4th.
