A MESSAGE FROM THE GLOBAL DOWN SYNDROME FOUNDATION
Welcome to Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s 2010 Be Beautiful Be Yourself Jet Set Fashion Show, a fundraiser for the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome at the Anschutz Medical Campus. Since our last fashion show, the Global Down Syndrome Foundation has supported critical and groundbreaking research, launched three service programs, two conferences, and in December of this year we will cohost the first Down syndrome registry and bio-bank summit with the National Institutes of Health. Anna & John J. Sie, Leslie & Bill Vollbracht, Alison & Kirby Winfield, Jr., and Dana Vollbracht, have led our 15 fabulous Co-Chairs this year to help us raise enough funds to make a huge difference for people with Down syndrome.
Tonight, we are celebrating 26 brilliant and beautiful Guest Models who happen to have a developmental disability. Two of these models are also recipients of the Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award— 2009 award recipient, the irrepressible Ms. DeOndra Dixon, and 2010 award recipient, the inspirational Ms. Karen Gaffney. We are celebrating Timothy P. Shriver, recipient of this year’s Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award and we are honored and thrilled that music icon Quincy Jones is here in person to present this award. We are celebrating our caring, generous and talented celebrities, some of whom will be escorting our Guest Models down the runway — Tom Arnold, Chauncey Billups, Kim Christiansen, David Duval, Eric Hutchinson, Jamie Foxx, Stepfanie Kramer, John Lynch, Ed McCaffrey, Jeff Probst, 2010 Miss Colorado Melaina Shipwash, and Billy Van Heusen.
We are also celebrating the message we are communicating to the world — It’s Time. People with Down syndrome deserve fundamental human rights and you can help. The most heartfelt thank you to our 2010 Ambassador, Katherine Vollbracht Winfield, to our Co-Chairs, Honorary Chairs, Honorary Committee, Sponsors, In-Kind Sponsors, Donors, Attendees, Event Committee, Volunteers, and the amazing staff at the Global Down Syndrome Foundation. It truly takes a village, and ours continues to grow by leaps and bounds. We hope that each and every one of you tonight takes something inspirational away from this event and that you will see people with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities in a brilliant light.
With much gratitude and affection,
Michelle Sie Whitten
